Something has come among us.
Agent Damian Raven has a personality disorder that makes him hard to work with. Together with his new partner, Tasmin Popescu, he works at the forefront of a United Nations taskforce, charged with protecting the world from unconstrained technologies.
But when a phone technician in London discovers creatures incubating in smartphone batteries, and a solipsistic scientist in the Gobi desert finds her colleagues working on an unauthorised and disturbing project, Raven and Popescu find themselves facing an enemy for which they could never prepare.
Racing around the globe, they must stop this foe and save those who have become its pawns - before it cripples civilisation completely, and leaves us broken in its wake.
Connected Infection eBook A Ashley Straker
Connected Infection is the sister novel to Infected Connection that gives alternative scenes, events and view points as well as extra ones. Once again we find Simon Parfitt well out his depth as he is embroilled in the efforts of his company then his government then NATO in figuring out and tackling the presence of something within the mobile technology we all love (come on admit it, you'd be lost without your phone, laptop, tablet...we all know it!). But instead of the story focusing on Simon alone we follow Agents Raven and Popescu as they try and handle the resulting 'zombies', starting with a couple of teenage girls in the US. We also follow Anna, a physicist based in the Gobi desert working at a highly sensitive and important power generation lab, who also discovers strange goings on with her friends and work colleagues. This book is far more action orientated than Infected Connection (and has no Invisible Max...gutted!) but it still has plenty of science to keep your inner geek happy and will still have you looking at your phone in an oh-so-suspicious manner. And while I did miss Invisible Max (seriously love that character) Agent Raven did manage to fill the one-liner gap pretty well and his extremely no nonsense way of dealing with things was rather amusing (and made me mildly concerned about my own mental stability...but that is another matter). Yes there are a few bits that follow the traditional action sequence style but to be honest that doesn't take away from the story or the writing and the appearance of the being behind everything was brilliant (I want a mini version to keep in my pocket...is that weird?). Anyway it's another just read it people moment!
